Department of Basic Course undertakes the teaching tasks of all the public basic courses, which is composed of six teaching and research sections,including literature & history, mathematics, English, physics &chemistry, aesthetic education, and basic application of computer. The department has strong teaching faculty consisting of a group of teaching backbones with high teaching & research level and rich experience, and a group of young teachers who are vigorous and dedicated to their jobs. There are 42 teachers, including 14 associate professors, 20 lecturers, 8 teaching assistants, 2 “dual-qualified” teachers,and 26 of them have Master’s Degrees. In addition, the Department still has over 30 part-time teachers. They are committed to striving for perfection in teaching, which is widely praised by peers and students. Fruitful results have been achieved after actively exploration in teaching and research, such as publishing over 100 papers in various journals at all levels, participating in editing many textbooks, and presiding over a number of various research projects.

The Department takes cultivation of students' innovative consciousness and practical ability as the teaching focus, and regards improvement of students’ comprehensive quality as an eternal theme. The teachers of the Mathematics Teaching and Research Section actively carried out training on "Mathematics Modeling" and "Advanced Mathematics Competition", organized students to participate in related competitions, and achieved excellent results. After-school physics and chemistry experiments were opened in the Physics & Chemistry Teaching and Research Section, which helped students to strengthen their hands-on skills. The English Teaching and Research Section regularly organizes activities, such as "English Salon", "English Recitation Competition", and "Basic English Skills Competition" , which have achieved excellent results. Students also have made brilliant achievements in the Jiangsu Province English Test. Under the guidance of the teachers of the Culture & History Teaching and Research Section, the Hongxing Literature Club and other clubs regularly offer writing guidance course, instructing students to participate in various competitions such as essay writing and reading. In the course of aesthetic education and the Second Class, the teachers of Aesthetic Education Section shape and educate students spiritually, which improve their aesthetic structure, so that students  achieve the optimization and perfection of personality. In the Beautiful Aesthetic Education Achievement Exhibition hosted by Aesthetic Education Committee of China Association of Higher Education , teachers and students have obtained excellent results. The Teaching and Research Section of Basic Application of Computer provides training for students to participate in the National Computer Rank Examination each semester, which is well received by students.

In order to cultivate high-quality technical talents needed by the society, Department of Basic Course actively implements the spirit of Opinions of the Ministry of Education on Deepening Vocational Education and Teaching Reform and Comprehensively Improving the Quality of Talent Training and other documents. Based on basic, applied, and developmental functions, the Department updates teaching contents and revises curriculum standards with the principles of practicality, life-orientation, and universality. The Department carefully organizes teaching activities and makes unremitting efforts to lay a solid culture foundation for cultivating top-ranking, high-quality professional and technical personnels.
